OffSónar is a series of parallel events and parties held in Barcelona during the same week as the renowned Sónar Festival. Although not officially part of Sónar, OffSónar takes advantage of the presence of thousands of electronic music fans in the city, offering a vibrant and diverse alternative.
One of the highlights of OffSónar is its unique venues. Many events take place in historic or iconic locations across Barcelona, creating a spectacular blend of music and scenery. Walking between the stages is a sonic adventure, as in certain spots, the sounds blend together, creating a truly unique experience. The stage designs are incredibly creative, including the fuselage of an Airbus A330, among other impressive structures.
The crowd is friendly and diverse, with people of all ages, and the atmosphere is infectious—we always leave feeling recharged. However, it's essential to be prepared for desert conditions. The environment is dry and dusty, and you will inevitably end up with sand everywhere—even in your socks.
Wear comfortable footwear and light clothing suitable for the extreme daytime heat. Many festival-goers opt for bikinis due to the high temperatures. At night, the temperature drops slightly, making it more pleasant, and this is when the festival gets busier. The dress code shifts to a more alternative style, often influenced by S&M fashion.
When and Where: Annually in the Monegros desert (near Fraga, Aragon), traditionally on the last Saturday of July.
Duration: 22 hours non-stop (because if it were longer, the festival would be required to provide camping and showers). It usually starts in the afternoon on Saturday and goes until around noon the next day, without stopping.
Ticket Prices: Tickets are sold in tiers (lotes) that progressively increase in price. There are options for general admission and VIP tickets, with prices varying depending on the purchase tier.
The Most Diverse: Medusa Festival (Cullera, Valencia)

Located near the beach, it’s perfect for those looking to combine electronic music with a summer holiday.

Medusa Festival is renowned for its diverse line-up, featuring techno, EDM, house, and other electronic subgenres. Its beachside location in Cullera adds a special charm to the event. During the day, festival-goers can relax on the beach and soak up the sun, while at night, the shore transforms into a massive dancefloor, where electronic beats take over.
The festival is also known for its inclusive and diverse atmosphere. The energy at Medusa is infectious, bringing together people from all over the world to celebrate music and life. The friendly and welcoming vibe makes it easy to meet new people and create unforgettable memories.
When and Where: Annually on the beach of Cullera (Valencia), traditionally in mid-August.
Duration: About 5 days, which usually includes the "pre-party" days before the main weekend.
Ticket Prices: Tickets are sold in tiers (lotes). The most common options are the general pass (abono) for all days and the VIP pass. It is important to note that the Rest Area (camping) usually requires a separate paid supplement.
The most known: Aquasella Festival (Arriondas, Astúrias)
Aquasella Festival is one of Spain’s most traditional electronic music festivals. With a long-standing history and a loyal audience, it takes place annually in Arriondas, Asturias, and is renowned for its friendly and intimate atmosphere. The combination of high-quality music, nature, and a tight-knit electronic music community makes Aquasella a truly unique experience.
What to Expect at Aquasella Festival
Aquasella is famous for its line-up, which blends techno veterans with promising new talents. The natural setting in Arriondas adds a special charm to the festival.
The festival attracts a young crowd and features three stages in a green open space. The campsite is a party in itself, with people continuing the celebrations throughout the day after intense festival nights. During our visit, we travelled in a van and ended up sleeping inside it in the car park, which was quieter. The rest area has plenty of showers and toilets, and since the showers are open, many festival-goers choose to shower in bikinis.
During the day, many people head to the river near the festival site to cool off and enjoy nature. It’s common to see a constant flow of inflatable mattresses being carried from tents to the river and back.
One essential tip for enjoying Aquasella is to be prepared for Asturias’ unpredictable weather. It’s advisable to bring light clothing for the daytime heat and warm layers for the colder nights. Additionally, rain is always a possibility, so packing a raincoat and waterproof footwear is highly recommended.
When and Where: Annually in Arriondas (Asturias), near the Sella River, traditionally in mid-August.
Duration: About 4 days, usually from Thursday to Sunday.
