Terra Mítica: A mythological theme park in the heart of Benidorm

Have you ever imagined a place that combines a theme park, a water park, and stunning shows? Well, such a place actually exists. I have to admit, I'd never heard of it until recently, and when I did, I assumed it was just a kids' park. How wrong I was. Terra Mítica shot straight to the top of my personal ranking of Spanish theme parks, right up there with PortAventura. With one or two more thrill rides, it would be unbeatable.

Imagine exploring Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome, but with roller coasters, live shows, water rides, and cinematic settings. That's Terra Mítica, an incredible theme park located in Benidorm, on Spain's sunny Costa Blanca.

One of Terra Mítica's biggest highlights, and something that completely won us over, is its incredible theming, which transports you directly into the world of ancient civilisations. As soon as you step inside the park, you're met with breathtaking scenery: Egyptian temples, highly-detailed Greek ruins, and a grand Roman arena that makes you feel like you're at a real gladiator show. But the most iconic, picture-postcard view is undoubtedly the giant "Terra Mítica" sign carved into the mountainside, visible from all over the park and perfect for that epic photo! The attention to detail in the buildings, statues, and decorations is so immersive you'll feel like you're in an adventure film. Each themed area has its own unique soundtrack and atmosphere, making the experience even more magical. Prepare to be amazed!

Simply my favourite ride in the park. Flying on a swing chair 80 metres in the air, feeling the wind on your face and admiring the view of Benidorm, the whole park, and its iconic sign.

The former wooden roller coaster, once one of the largest in Europe, was closed in 2021 but still dominates the park's landscape. It's an imposing beast of a structure; it must have been an incredible thrill.

Another huge water park area, with a spa, hydro-massage pools, and live entertainment including games and music in the summer. And the icing on the cake? A swim-up bar. Order a drink and enjoy it without leaving the water, the perfect way to cool down.

Shows & special events

Terra Mítica also offers daily shows with historical costumes, special effects, and plenty of audience interaction.

  • Los Sueños de Egipto (Dreams of Egypt): Taking place in front of the main entrance gate, the show features dancers, contortionists, and acrobats.
  • Spartacus: Honour & Courage: Puts you right inside the Colosseum for a true journey back in time. An action-packed and emotional adventure that tells the story of the slave who became a legend among the gladiators.
  • Arde Troya (Troy Burns): A classic interactive show set in a labyrinth. While this is often a paid extra at other parks, at Terra Mítica it's included with your ticket and takes you right into the Invasion of Troy.
  • Barbarroja: A pirate story filled with interactivity, action, and thrilling moments.

Food: affordable and varied

Bringing your own food and drink into the park isn't permitted, but you can leave and re-enter on the same day (just ask for a hand stamp on your way out). The park has plenty of its own places to eat, offering meals and snacks at fair prices.

  • Full meals: €15 to €25
  • Quick snacks: €5 to €15
  • Drinks: €2 to €4

From burgers and pasta to Mediterranean dishes and traditional sweets, there's something for every taste!

P.S. Despite several signs forbidding it, we saw many people bringing food into the park and even a cooler rental service at the entrance, which left us a bit confused. As leaving and re-entering is allowed, we chose to leave our own cooler in the car and pop out for a snack in the afternoon.

Terra Mítica on screen

The park is a favourite of Spanish television and has been the setting for:

TV shows like "Supervivientes" (the Spanish version of Survivor).

Commercials, music videos, soap operas, and independent productions.

Zona Egito

The Rome and Egypt areas are particularly popular filming locations, as their scenery could be straight out of a movie.

Extra tips

  • Wear comfortable shoes: you'll be doing a lot of walking. But also bring a pair of flip-flops for when you get wet.
  • Bring sun cream, a hat, and a reusable water bottle (there are drinking fountains throughout the park).
  • Download the official Terra Mítica app for a park map, show times, ride queue times, and special offers.
  • Lockers are available to store valuables or backpacks.
  • Arrive early and try to visit mid-week to avoid queues. We went in high season at the end of July on a Wednesday and the park was practically empty. This definitely made our experience even more fantastic.
  • Water park area: Don't forget your swimwear and dive in! Forgot it? There's a small shop just past the park entrance selling swimming trunks, bikinis, towels, and flip-flops (€15–€50).

Terra Mítica is more than just roller coasters. It's a real journey into the ancient world, complete with water fun, culture, mythology, and plenty of adrenaline. It's ideal for a day (or two!) out with family or friends, and a great alternative to the beaches of Benidorm.

Don't forget your sun cream, swimwear, and your spirit of adventure. Get ready for a mythically unforgettable day!
